Job Summary
A leading wastewater and water treatment equipment design and manufacturing company is looking for an experienced Technical Sales Engineer with strong experience in technical/solution sales of industrial capital equipment and direct sector experience in mining, food & beverage, industrial manufacturing or oil & gas to join their team in Alberton. The role is field-based with 40–60% travel and focuses on vertical-aligned solution selling, selling complete multi-item treatment solutions rather than individual catalogue items.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume responsibility for an assigned vertical, including its named accounts, relevant trigger events, and its twelve-month campaign plan.
- Sell across the full offering, including the company’s own manufactured equipment and represented agency lines, assembled into designed, multi-item solutions rather than quoted individually.
- Conduct site surveys and circuit audits, interpret effluent and flow data, and work with the Engineering department to size and select equipment.
- Build relationships with EPCs, consulting engineers and contractors active within the assigned vertical, and secure specification of equipment at design stage.
- Provide structured field input to inform product development, including identified gaps in the current scope, the extent of demand, and indicative value.
- Present at least one technical session per year to consulting engineers within the assigned vertical.
- Maintain accurate and current CRM records, and submit complete, well-briefed quotation requests to the internal sales desk.
Requirements
- Essential: BEng, BTech or National Diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Civil or Water engineering, or demonstrably equivalent engineering experience.
- Essential: Direct experience in the vertical applied for — mining, food & beverage, industrial manufacturing, or oil & gas.
- Essential: Five or more years in technical or solution sales of industrial capital equipment, with a verifiable record of closing multi-item or plant-level orders.
- Essential: Able to read and interpret P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, process flow diagrams and equipment datasheets.
- Essential: Commercial numeracy covering margin, landed cost, escalation, payment terms, life-cycle cost and payback calculations.
- Essential: Valid driver’s licence and genuine willingness to travel 40–60% of the time, including to plant and mine sites.
- Essential: Physically able and prepared to work on operating industrial sites, subject to relevant safety inductions and medical assessments.
- Advantageous: Working knowledge of wastewater unit processes — screening, grit removal, clarification, thickening, dewatering and aeration.
- Advantageous: An established personal network among end users, EPCs and consulting engineers active within the relevant vertical.
- Advantageous: Experience selling through EPCs, consulting engineers and formal tender processes.
- Advantageous: ECSA registration (Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Pr Techni Eng).
Remuneration & Benefits
- Salary: negotiable.
